What is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational therapy (OT) is a health profession dedicated to helping individuals of all ages develop, improve, or recover the skills necessary for daily living and working. Occupational therapists collaborate with people facing physical, cognitive, or emotional challenges that impact their ability to engage in everyday activities.

The primary objective of occupational therapy is to empower individuals to participate in meaningful and purposeful activities, known as “occupations.” These activities encompass a wide range, including self-care tasks (such as dressing, bathing, and eating), work-related activities, and leisure pursuits.

As a registered NDIS provider, our team provide the highest standard of occupational therapy in Melbourne. Our occupational therapists work with you to achieve your goals, empowering participants to enhance their daily lives through meaningful activities.

At the heart of our practice is a commitment to enhancing individual well-being by focusing on key skill areas.

Here’s a breakdown of the essential skills we work on:

Fine Motor Skills

Fine motor skills involve the coordination of small muscles in the hands and fingers. These skills are crucial for tasks such as writing, buttoning shirts, and using utensils. Improving fine motor skills can enhance daily living activities and boost confidence.

Gross Motor Skills

Gross motor skills pertain to larger muscle groups and involve movements like running, jumping, and climbing. Developing these skills is vital for physical health, coordination, and balance, ultimately contributing to an active lifestyle.

Cognitive Skills

Cognitive skills are essential for effective problem-solving and decision-making. These skills encompass memory, attention, and reasoning abilities. Strengthening cognitive skills can lead to better academic performance and improved everyday functioning.

Social Skills

While not mentioned in the original text, social skills are integral to overall well-being. They include communication, empathy, and cooperation, which help individuals build relationships and navigate social situations effectively.

Emotional Regulation

Emotional regulation is the ability to manage one’s emotions in a healthy way. This skill is crucial for maintaining mental health and resilience in challenging situations, promoting overall emotional well-being.

By focusing on these essential skills, we empower individuals to enhance their overall well-being and lead fulfilling lives.

Home Visit Services

Why do we call ourselves a home visit specialist?

We operate without physical office locations, which helps reduce our overhead costs. These savings allow us to invest in additional staff and enhance the quality of our services. It also means we can recruit team members in strategic areas—ideally close to you. Since NDIS travel charges are based on distance and time, having a practitioner nearby reduces travel time and results in lower costs for your home visits. Additionally, our processes are set to ensure sessions are run smoothly and safely. All of our systems are in alignment with NDIS quality and safety standards.

Minimising Travel Fees for Your Benefit:

While home visits may incur travel fees, we strive to pair you with a practitioner in close proximity or schedule sessions with fellow participants nearby to reduce travel costs.

Safety First: Your Peace of Mind Matters:

Prioritizing safety during home visits, we require completion of a comprehensive home visit safety checklist as part of our onboarding process. Your well-being is our top priority.

Extensive Coverage Across Melbourne:

Covering most suburbs in Melbourne, our services are accessible and tailored to meet your needs, ensuring you receive expert care where you’re most comfortable.

Adelaide NDIS Functional Capacity Assessments (FCA) & Assistive Technology

Feel free to check out our pediatric FCA template by clicking on the image below! Please note that all our FCAs are individual and that the templates will change depending on your personal needs.

What is an FCA?

A Functional Capacity Assessment (FCA) is a thorough evaluation conducted to assess an individual’s ability to perform various daily activities and tasks. This comprehensive assessment involves a detailed analysis of physical, cognitive, and emotional capacities, aiming to provide a comprehensive understanding of a person’s overall functional abilities. The process typically includes an examination of fine and gross motor skills, cognitive functions such as memory and problem-solving, self-care abilities, and social engagement. The assessment may also delve into specific areas relevant to an individual’s unique circumstances, such as falls prevention strategies and visual perception. By examining these facets, a Functional Capacity Assessment provides valuable insights into an individual’s capabilities, helping to tailor support and interventions to enhance their overall quality of life and independence.

What goes into our FCA's

Our Functional Capacity Assessments (FCA) are comprehensive, spanning between 20 to 30 pages due to the breadth of information covered. Given the depth of the assessment, it is typically conducted over two consultations. During the initial session, non-standardized assessments take place, featuring an in-depth interview to discuss goals and observe functional capacity across various domains. In the second consultation, standardized assessments are employed, aligning with NDIA standards to add substantial weight to the overall report. This meticulous two-step process ensures a thorough understanding of an individual’s capabilities, contributing to a robust and insightful assessment report.
